New Mobile Site
We have just launched a new mobile version of this site - m.trainspots. This page will use your smart device's GPS to loctate you and guide you to locations that are close to your present location.
Location notes
Wymondham is a small town west of Norwich on the line from there to Ely and Peterborough. It used to be the junction for the branch to Dereham. This connection is still in use allowing access to the Mid-Norfolk Railway which has a separate station in the town.
Railway type and traffic
There are roughly two passenger trains an hour along the line, one being a East Midlands Trains service from Norwich to Liverpool, the other being a Greater service to Cambridge. Most of these trains stop at Wymondham. Freight traffic on this route is sparse though there is an occasional aggregates working between Mountsorrel and Norwich. There is a regular programme of excursion trains originating from the Preserved line to Dereham some of which reverse at Wymondham.
Environment
Wymondham is a small, quiet market town and is a 5-10 minute walk from the station. The station buildings have been very well restored and have a cafe on the Norwich bound platform.
Road directions
Wymondham is just of the main A11 trunk road west of Norwich. The town itself is on the B1172 with the station being about 200 yards south of this road from the traffic lights nearest the town centre.

Photographic notes
There is a good selection of Semaphore signals at Wymondham, also fairly unusually now Telegraph Poles, and the station itself is worth photographing.
The light is best in a morning for trains heading towards Norwich passing the signal box from the west and in the afternoon for trains entering the station from the east.
