New Mobile Site
We have just launched a new mobile version of this site - m.trainspots. This page will use your smart device's GPS to loctate you and guide you to locations that are close to your present location.
Location notes
Located just outside Great Yarmouth this location is on the line to Norwich, via Reedham.
Railway type and traffic
Traffic is dominated by East Anglian DMUs. Usually class 156 or 170s. During the summer months the line becomes popular for the 'Drags' where class 47s are used to haul MkIII sets with the DVT and 90 attached from Yarmouth to Norwich, where the 47 detaches from the train and the 90 heads to Liverpool Street.
There is no freight booked along the line.
Environment
This is a small embankment on the Wherrymans Way footpath. Bordering the Acle Marshes it is also within the Bredon Nature Reserve. There will be walkers and bird watchers around, but there is no lighting in the area so not a lot of use after dark.
Road directions
Follow signs to Great Yarmouth, the location is off a lay by just before you enter the town.
If approaching on the A12 from the south continue all the way through Great Yarmouth, crossing over the river bridge. At the roundabout take the first exit (left) and continue down the A47. You will see the railway line on your left. After about 3/4 of a mile you will see the footpath lay by.

Great Yarmouth is a prime Norfolk holiday destination, there will be numerous hotels, b&bs in the town.

Photographic notes
The location is an embankment that is there to strengthen the bank against the tide. You are raised up well above 'platform' height here. Trains heading towards Norwich are heading south west so light would favour afternoon shots. For workings heading into Great Yarmouth a very early morning view will catch the light.
You will also see workings heading via Acle, but the location is too close to the junction for you to change to that line in time to get a close shot.
